Reading
I have several books going at the moment. They are all good, but I haven’t had the time to really sink into any one of them. I have started Let This Radicalize You, by Kelly E. Hayes and Mariame Kaba. I have the ebook from a recent Haymarket Books sale, but now of course I’m wishing I had a print copy to annotate. I’m reading on my phone and then switching over to my notes app to jot down my thoughts and quotes, and well…it isn’t the easiest thing.
Watching
Whatever my thoughts on TikTok at the moment, seeing all the gay wedding celebrations in Thailand has been an absolute delight. The diversity of couples, from young to old, showing so much style and love, some in traditional dress, others in military uniforms, sharing their joy, is incredible precious to behold.
Listening
I’ve been re-reading, on audio, Inciting Joy by Ross Gay. His narration is so delightful. He has a whole section on musical covers, and the idea of “covering” more generally. It has me thinking of what unexpected artist I think would create a beautiful cover of a song. Expect my submission to that prompt soon-ish.
On deck
I’m determined to improve my Italian skills, so I’ve decided to watch My Brilliant Friend. One of my goals for this year is to have an actual conversation in Italian, and duolingo just isn’t cutting it. I’ve read some of the Elena Ferrante novels, and I can watch in Italian with English subtitles.
